Croft
today

Croft is dedicated to sustainability, embodying a holistic approach that integrates environmental stewardship into all facets of its operations. Our vineyard management practices exemplify this commitment through initiatives such as soil protection, composting and the promotion of biodiversity. We have developed a tailored approach to vineyard management, selecting the most suitable grape varieties for specific soil profiles and optimizing their distribution to enhance wine quality. We employ a unique terracing model that allows for mechanical weed removal while promoting soil health.

Additionally, our commitment to water management is evident in our traditional dry farming practices, which rely solely on rainfall. We strategically link vineyard treatments to weather conditions, using data from our weather stations to ensure interventions are made only when necessary. Our pest control policies prioritize the use of certified, eco-friendly products while we also engage in non-chemical methods, such as encouraging and managing natural predators to manage pests effectively.

In the winery, we have implemented numerous initiatives to reduce our environmental impact, including the installation of a cleaning-in-place (CIP) system to minimise detergent use and the installation of photovoltaic panels to harness solar energy. We continuously monitor our energy consumption and have made significant strides in reducing waste, recycling and minimising carbon emissions. Our packaging strategies focus on using lightweight glass and FSC-certified materials, while promoting the use of natural cork, vital for carbon sequestration.
Croft also holds the National Reference for Sustainability Certification in the Wine Sector, a framework that empowers organisations to validate and showcase their sustainable practices. This certification not only enhances our credibility in the national and international markets but also contributes to a collective movement towards sustainability within the wine industry.
